I'm seeing a lot of this; people parking in handicap spots with no handicap sign in their vehicle. So I printed up a bunch of messages that read:
"You must have a handicap sign displayed in your windshield to park in a handicap spot. If you don't have one, don't park here. The next time you will be reported."
I fold up the message and stick it under their wiper blade. I have been noticing less violators, but I don't know if it's just coincidence, or if my handing out of these messages is actually getting through to these idiots...do you see a lot of this where you live?

Both my mom and dad could get them - they both have some mobility issues but they refuse to. They still park at the end of the parking lot and hobble in and out of the stores!
It is irritating when people use it for convenience rather than need.
Do you check to make sure they don't have a handicap license plate?
It doesn't seem to be much of a problem in Michigan.

Happens all the time, makes me so mad!
I just hate it when a vehicle with no handicap tag or plate is in a handicap parking place.
Then I have to park my vehicle (with no tag or plate) in a "healthy" parking spot, and inconvenience myself to walk a few more steps.
How selfish they are!
It doesn't help, either, when jurisdictions constantly change the rules. We went from having an actual plate on the vehicle indicating authorization to use the spots, to a plate sized piece of plastic you'd put on the dash, to a hanging thing, as you mention.
I respect your view on this, I'm a believer in following basic rules of society whether you agree with them or not. That said, I think it's ridiculous when I see at the grocery store, home depot, etc, so many handicapped spots reserved, I means tons, and rarely do I see more than a couple filled. I understand it's well intended all those reserved spaces represents is government encroachment, which I detest. Government has no business in telling a private business owner they have to reserve X number of spaces or else, most of which never get used. I'd much rather have the owner recognize some basic fair accommodations would appeal to customers and let free enterprise takes its course.
So yeah I see your point, fair enough, but equally or more irritated by seeing most every space anywhere near the store reserved and rarely even seeing a car in them. Sort of my pet peeve with our ever encroaching gov't.

Me, in FLA, I used to drop my 96 YO mom off at the kerb and help her out the car and to a bench whilst I parked WHEREever - though not in a handicapped reserved spot.
If somebody without a placard is hurt or disabled they can park there too, IMO don't need a law to tell me this.

I don't park in handicapped parking spaces and thus 'generally' pay little or no attention to them. Like other parking violations I figure it's up to the police to police those spots and ticket as required.
As an aside, I will say that 'some' that I do see using the spaces and have placards, in my observation don't appear particularly infirmed. But again, not my business.
