One of the popular subjects on BITOG is the discussion of how Mobil 1 makes engines noisy. Some people have stated that noise is a result of using a PAO base oil. If that were true, wouldn't Amsoils PAO oils be noisy too? Anyone compare their engines noise with Amsoil vs Mobil 1?

I can see the logic of your question, but I don't recall anyone suggesting the PAO was the cause.

I wondered about this too, Winston. I recently switched from Castrol GTX to Mobil 1 on my 2004 Honda CR-V, and contrary to the usual result folks say, it actually got quieter. Can't say I've tried Amsoil though.

I think every possible cause imaginable has been suggested for noisy M1, including GC elves with hammers hiding in M1 bottles.
