Think this would cause it?

This is the lower part of the fuel filler, it sits in the frame.

New part is over $200. Got this at a u pull it for $15.

Cleaned it up and painted it , used a section of slit fuel hose as a frame insulator.

Excellent. I see this post as the staple sample of how this forum and site shares. Common sense fixes for the DIYer's mechanical issues.

Yikes, is that a NC vehicle?

The one on my Grand Prix looks about that bad. I was able to find a new one on Rockauto for $30, and it's a lot more complex (bends and such) than the one you have pictured. I haven't replaced it yet (will be soon), but it still holds fuel and hasn't leaked or thrown codes. It's amazing how much metal / rust those things can shed before they start leaking.

Yes, at least for me. Previous owner had dunked boats , and I suspect it was also used on the outer banks a good bit. Was not rusty when I bought it, but continued to rust as I have owned it from that exposure. I bought it in 06 with 28k.

So far no code trip, but it might take a bit to retrip. I think this was the cause though.
