My '18 Can Am Maverick Trail 1000 calls for either BRP brand oil or 5W40 synthetic automotive (API-SN) oil. Why would I not go with 0W40 to get the advantage of faster "cold start" circulation to the moving parts? I live in MI and ride in temps from 30-90F. I will be changing my oil every 50 hours or every year, whichever comes first. With the advent of good 0W40 oils (Mobil 1, Valvoline, Castrol, Pennzoil, etc) I don't understand what the purpose is of still offering 5W40, other than maybe longer oil change intervals due to less additives in the 5W.

Im not sure if the 0w40 will handle the shearing that 5w40 will in that application. I have a RZR turbo and asked if 0w40 would handle it...the answer was no.

Currently running T6 15w40 in mid 40F not sure if any benefits or downfalls..engine sounds smoother.

At those temps a 5W-40 will be more than enough. My wife had a Ford F250 with a 7.3 Powerstroke engine and 17 *F was the lower end of the temp chart for a 15w-40 oil. The 0w will most likely be blended with a lower viscosity base oil blend. 5W40 pumps to 30* below O*f [more of less]

Well BRP sells a 0w-40, so I'm guessing that's not an issue:
