Good afternoon folks. I enjoy this. I use local berries, moms homemade peanut butter, Aldi unsweet yogurt 0% and somedays almond milk. And ground flax or chia seeds. How do you folks make yours?

I mix one flavored oatmeal packet with some unflavored oats (to reduce sugar intake) and slice some banana, or whatever fruit I have on hand, and place it on top. I usually mix in milk but will use hot water if I don't feel like microwaving my breakfast.

Local frozen berries? My wife will make them with coconut milk (a little better than almond milk) and sometimes our frozen berries or cherries added after the soak.

Oats are almost all carbohydrates so no go for me, if I eat a medium small bowl, off I go 170-180-190 mg/dl. If I'm cheating, make it good organic sour dough bread for a quick round to 160 or so. The stuff about oats reducing cholesterol is bunk.

The wife will take a strainer or a sifter and shake out much of the sugar in our packets of instant oatmeal because I always insist I want the brown sugar type.

yeah, there is a Doctor/Nutritionist I caught on tv a while back who was saying about the only benefit for humans using oats is as a high fiber to keep the plumbing moving. Other that that he was not too keen on the use of oats. I still like it at times on cold mornings or as a nite snack.

I meant local berries, not frozen.

You guys and your overnight, steel cut oats are over thinking oatmeal. Fast 'n easy is: Slice a peeled banana into my Pyrex porringer. Then add 7/8 cup of water and a heaping 1/4 tsp of salt. Last, a level cup of Bob's Red Milled Old fashioned rolled oats. Nuke for 5 minutes. Eat, no liquids added. Spoon stands straight up. Good cold. Oranges, apples, raisins, pineapple, etc work fine too.
 (y)

I'm never so hungry at lunch time as when I have oatmeal for breakfast. It's great for times when I'll be physically active in the morning but otherwise I avoid it.
