Got the oil changed in my Tacoma today and the guy didnt listen i guess when i told him to put only 5.7 quarts out of the 6 i gave him. When I got home I realized he didnt give me any left over, so my first reaction was to check the oil level. Its about 1/8 to 1/4 inch over the full mark, what do you guys think?

Dont worry about it. As long as its not high enough for the engine to foam the oil, I wouldnt worry about it.

.3 qts over should be no problem.

Year of Taco?
The one before I have now was filled more than not this for the first 344000 miles -- many times & it lived to 422K (motor still okay) before I got this one here.

The one I'm in over filled so far all but one OCI for about say 1500-2000 miles... now Almost 17K

I like to keep my Taco a HAIR above the Full line, or about where you say it is when hot because when cold mine is just a hair above the line.... anyway..... It a good motor except IMO only perhaps for the milage stinks.

These Taco's would rather IMO be filled a tad over than a half quart under... where a lot of people keep 'em

I would keep it at the full mark, not over, not under.

Why don't you change your own oil? Its easy with a truck!

Used to, still do most everything else, but Id rather pay someone the 12 bucks to do it.

Thanks guys. Yeah, i think thats a pretty good idea.

On second thought, it only takes one bonehead to top that up with their bulk oil, so not sure you can win on this one! --Murphy

I'll bet 90% of the people that get "quickie lube" changes are running around with 6 quarts in the crankcase.

Select a correctly spec'd oversized oil filter and you could come out even.

I agree with TallPaul. I'd give them the exact amount to use. In your case I'd give them 5.7 quarts exactly. I do that with my car that requires 4.5 quarts to fill with filter. My wife's Exploder calls for 5 quarts in the owner's manual. I gave the dealer 5 quarts of Schaeffer's and they said I needed another quart and could they add some of their's. I said that would be 6 quarts and they said that's what WE put in Explorers. That's 1 quart more than the owner's manual calls for

! Oh and don't sweat .3 quarts, that's fine, especially in a 5.7 quart system

I wouldn't sweat it. I actually believe in rounding up...ie. manual says 4.3qts...use 4.5...etc..

Mine says 7.9L....it's never 'full' on the dipstick unless I use 8L...sometimes 8.1

In other words, it's very often an estimate...just don't go over .3-.5qts of req'd limit.

dont worry about it. When running you are going to have at least 2-3 quarts 'in play' so it is very unlikely any oil can get hit by the crank.

These guys usually do a good job because I let them do other work, plus I'm usually right there watching the guy do it, but the one time I'm inside not watching getting a price on new tires
