Overall, how does the Quaker State dino stack up?

I see it's now the low-price sweetheart in a 5qt jug around here (8.97). How does it stack up overall against Pennzoil, castrol gtx and trop artic semi-syn?

Vehicles:

2001 Ford Taurus v6 91k
2003 Dodge Dakota v6 51k
1997 Nissan Maxima v6 ~100k (2 of these)
2001 Jeep grand Cherokee I-6, 87k

None of these use any oil nor do they leak anywhere, only one maxima and the taurus get driven on long trips (over 50 miles one way) for the most part. OCI is kept about every 4 months or 3-4k. Have been using havoline but the price increase from 6.90 to 11.48 has me off my butt looking for an alternative.

Pennzoil/castrol gtx is 9.97, TA semi-syn is 1.68 qt.

Excellent wear control, don't overlook this motor oil brands chemistry. Not a long drain oil but judicious use of LC backed by UOA can compensate for that.

Quaker State is a too overlooked brand at BITOG that is well engineered.

I've used Quaker State conventional many times in numerous vehicles. I have zero complaints about this oil. I would use it in all 4 of your vehicles in a heartbeat. Change it per your vehicles' owners manual recommendation, and Quaker State conventional will not let you down.

LOL! I said QS was an "enigma" on BITOG a year ago, and got shot at. (Number 2 selling brand in US, and unexplainably few used/new analyses on here). If you compare the base QS and sibling Pennzoil PureBase, the Pennzoil has slightly better average numbers, that probably means nothing. Mr. Johnny had indicated the Pennzoil brand slightly better (II+ v. II?). The Peak Performance was selling for $7.74/5 qt. jug at our Walmart. Pretty good deal, IMHO.

Quaker State conventional is 8.97 CURRENTLY at Walmart here.. just a bone shy of the pennz/castrol boys.

Before I found this board a little over a year ago, I used plain Quaker State 5w30 or Castrol GTX dino for probably the first 100K miles on my engine, because....ahem....I "didn't know any better". I have an engine that is abnormally hard on oil and is a known sludge beast (see my signature). But...looking back on it, if Quaker State conventional had really been a poor, low quality oil, it would shown itself in the engine I have. Most of the 2.7's do not make it as far as mine has.
