Someone has a thread on a Berryman B-12 piston soak on a Prius.

https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/5308734/2007-prius-piston-soak

He reports success. However, he spent hours and days.

B-12 is composed of toluene (40 - 50%), acetone (20 - 25%), methanol (20 - 25%), as well as small amounts of butanone, 2-butoxyethanol, and 2-propanol (1 - 5% each) -- all good solvents.

The aniline point for toluene is listed as 10 °C, which is very low. The lower the aniline point, the better is the solvency. The kauri - butanol (Kb) value for it is 105 (the higher the better solvency).

The Valvoline Premium Blue Restore (VPBR) aniline point is listed as 60 °C. I just noticed this in the patent:

In selecting the particular components for the base oil as measured by ASTM 2270, if one were to choose a more polar polyol ester, the amount of the polyol ester would need to be reduced in order to maintain compatibility with elastomers in the engine. In other words, if the solvency, as defined by aniline point or other measures of solvency, is too great (the aniline point is too low), the seals in the engine could be destroyed by the lubricant formulation and begin leaking, also corrosion might occur prematurely. Any base oil blend that passes the seals test ASTM-D7216 can be used.

The patent is a great reading on base-oil blending for solvency and other properties:

Therefore, one concern when pouring a solvent such as B-12 into the engine would be the seals.

If saving money isn't critical, I would go with the Valvoline Premium Blue Restore (VPBR) coupled with a large-size Fram Ultra (FU) full-synthetic oil filter, such as the XG3600, as all you have to do is an oil change. It also works continuously for 10,000 miles, which performs a thorough cleaning of the rings and all the other engine parts reached by the oil. You also save the cost of an oil change because with it you can do twice the OCI you can do with a regular oil. If you have time and enjoy working on your car, you can give the B-12 a try. You can even do a quick B-12 treatment first, run the car for a thousand miles, and then do an oil change with the VPBR and FU XG3600.
