Opinions to buy new tires now, or wait until fall

The Continental TrueContact Tour 54 is not a Walmart only tire, I see it listed on other tire stores online page with a similar starting price of $205
I was referring got the Reliant tire. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Passenger car tires are all 9-11/32, new, no?
Maybe yes, maybe no.
High miler or softer performance tire?
Do you have a heavy foot?
Not anymore, both wife and I are upper 40's and no longer in a hurry to get places.

I kinda thought if I was to select one tire brand from good experiences, it'd be Continental.
I am, however, open to other avenues of thought.

AND keep checking!
To slacktide_bitog: Great informative post. a.From experience?, b.You Slime?

You sound ready to buy.

The colder it is, the longer you go, the more likely it is for the leak to get worse. A leak is a hole that can get bigger over time. 1-2 psi a week can become 1 psi a day :cautious:

Yes, I have used Slime, and it held up for a year and was still working when I finally replaced the tires. And yes, I told the tire shop which tires had the slime in them. Of course, the cars didn't have direct TPMS, so I didn't have to worry about ruining any sensor. You can't use slime and similar products with direct TPMS because it gums up the sensor, so if you do, you'll need a new sensor.

Luckily, the OP's Honda has indirect TPMS, so no sensor.

Thanks, that's the kind of upgrade I'm looking for.
You don't happen to remember the model of Continentals?
TrueContact Tour maybe? I forget. It was from my Dad's homecare giver as a thank you after he passed.
If you wish, I can ask her to look at the sidewall and let me know. TrueContact or PureContact?
I think it was a SUV tire...

The majority of cabin noise is from the tires, on a newer smooth stretch of highway, it is very quiet.
I don't know if I can link another car forum. But I can tell you on other forums a prevalent complaint is noise. Specifically for yours and earlier years. So I'm not fan of Michelins-but in your case they may be a consideration-deal or not.

Most of your view is misinformed. OK-how many years ago did you run any of these tires?
The Kumho Crugen HT51 gets solid reviews and has been compared to a Michelin.

Because I know most have just released a new generation of tires.

OK-find the bad tires and get back to us.
Kumho SUCKS and performed awfully for me as an OEM tire.

OP is plenty informed.

The key word is "OEM" tire. I have purchased 4-$50,000 trucks and without exception what ever the brand of tires came on the trucks from the factory sucked-because they were exactly that-OEM tires.
I bought a new Honda Accord once -factory OEM Michelins-they would break loose on over spray from a planted road divider in the center of the street-literally.
Our resident tire expert Capriracer on this board has talked about this extensively-that you can't judge any brand on OEM tires.

@Sj08 - check the Continental website also with their rebates. Nov '23 I opened a Continental Tire credit card and used it next day at local tire dealer. I bought my son 4 Conti True Contact Tour (not 54). The tires were cheaper, mounted/balanced than if I ordered 4 from TireRack and had shipped to the same place and then mounted. They are TR recommended installer.

If you used the Conti credit card they doubled the rebate so $220 off a set of 4. Discount tire direct had the same thing further back. So if you are not opposed to opening a new CC and use only for that purpose it's an option. I paid it off end of month in full.

The Goodyear WeatherReady 2 got good test results on Tirerack and they had some good sale and rebates going a month or two ago.

As mentioned, watch the video reviews/tests on Tire Rack and then decide.

I put Pirelli Scorpion AS+2 on my daughters '08 CRV a couple years ago. I bought them because of the noise and overall ratings and they lived up to that over the worn Defenders.Like mentioned totally different vehicle. I wouldn't hesitate to get the Pirelli AS3 based on them and the Pirelli P7 AS+2 on my Accord. Caveat is neither is used in winter as I have dedicated winter tires.

The Conti LX25 gets almost constant good reviews for all around including good winter.

Don't see any rebates on the Continental website, but will check next month again.

I haven't watched the Tire Rack video's yet, planning on this weekend, but started reading their test results, the LX25, and AS Plus 3 looked good, and had very high customer ratings with a lot of miles driven. The only easy choice between these 2 is the cheaper one.

Been thinking more about some of the all weather offerings, and still undecided if they are worth the extra noise and mpg hit some are reporting. 99.9% of our commutes are on bare roads, we don't go anywhere during weather events, but having more grip if something unexpected happens might be worth it, however the LX25 and AS Plus 3 has good winter reviews, so that is what I'm struggling with.

Keep checking here randomly https://continentaltire.com/offers and on websites like Tire Rack.

Current deals showing at Tire Rack https://www.tirerack.com/specialoffers/specialoffers.jsp which has $80 off multiple brands and teh road hazard etc. Do you have a Discount Tire by you? They often have a 30 day happiness thing if you don't like them.

Noise is subjective to the user but does change. My sister has CC2's on Rav4 Hybrid. She loves them for noise and grip.

MPG's are always a topic and depending on use may play a larger role to some. How many miles do you drive yearly? 2mpg lower from my average highway MPG at 15k/year would = 35 gallons more for the year for the increases potential traction. In some of my cars and how they are used that may only be 10 gallons more.

I'm not a GY fan based on my passed experiences. The GY WeatherReady 2 had some good sales going that based on tests/reviews would make it that I probably would have tried them if I was buying tires at that point.

After that if I REALLY don't like something, I can always get rid of them and sell used or maybe get prorated return for customer satisfaction.

Thanks for the links, I will keep checking.
Don't have a Discount tire anywhere in the state.

I don't live near a Sam's club, but am a plus member getting a reduced rate add on from a family member. Usually get back there once a month and see they have a pretty good price on Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 $818, and Weatheractive $968, includes free rotations and road hazard. Price is everything except disposal. Offer good until end of May, so I can use that as the price to beat while searching. Right now cheaper than Tire Rack, plus the cost of mounting and balance.

We only been driving less than 10k/year, but have some trips planned that will be more than that in the summer alone. Not that concerned about slight mpg hit, just looking at pro's and cons of each type of tire.

They can compare Kumho to space shuttle, but it is Kumho.

Don’t get into how much you drive per year. You drive! When you drive, you want tire to perform as best as it can.
Second, tires age in garage too. Michelin generally is the best in retaining that initial performance. Other top brands are safe bet too. If you can swing it, Michelin, Bridgestone, Continental, Pirelli skme Good Year’s. Then other brands.
