I had a half quart bottle of Valvoline DOT3/4 fluid that had been opened for a month and three days. The fluid turned a very dark color. I closed it tightly after the first use and it had been stored in my garage between December and January. I used this fluid for a brake fluid flush. Was it still safe to use? Why did it darken so much?

opened as in "cap completely off"?
If so, I'd chuck it away and buy fresh new one.
If it's capped tightly in it's original bottle, then 1 mnth is no big deal.

It was capped tightly in the original bottle. By opened I meant "half used".
Should I flush the fluid again to get rid of all the darkened fluid?

No way, especially since youre in FL in the summer.
Yeah for me at least, the terms "brake fluid" and "" are enough to make me drop it off at the recycling place.
Don't use it. It's probably ruined as it has absorbed moisture.
