For decades I have kept detailed fillup information for all our cars (and forced the family to do that too!) . Here are actual 365-day fuel-usage numbers for four of our cars:

2013 Toyota RAV4, odometer 63,000 mi
-- Used 760.559 US gallons to go 19,364.113 miles.
-- That's 25.46 mpg.
The vehicle's on-board mileage counter (which gives the number in Metric) says the equivalent of 25.848 mpg.

2015 Toyota Corolla, odometer 15,400 mi
-- Used 393.149 gallons to go 12,146.315 miles
-- That's 30.89 mpg
The vehicle's on-board mileage counter says the equivalent of 34.089 mpg.

1999 Toyota Tercel, odometer 207,000 mi
-- Used 439.103 gallons to go 12,620.111 miles
-- That's 28.74 mpg

1991 Acura Integra, odometer 414,300 miles (yes, not a typo!)
-- Used 685.313 gallons to go 19,165.262 miles
-- That's 27.97 mpg
This is for the car's last year with me, 2012-2013.

An average of what?

Its actual gas mileage for a year.

I suppose you could say hes averaging 365 days of driving.

So far, nobody seems to have noticed two of the most interesting details:

1) The rather large discrepancy between the Corolla's actual mileage and that reported by the on-board computer -- about 10% difference.
2) That a car with nearly half-a-million miles on it can still achieve nearly 28 mpg. When the Integra was much younger, it achieved about 29-30 mpg.

Not really, it totally depends on the driving style.

Not really its actual mileage over a year.

not glancing over at it for one highway trip.

My forester can hit 31-34mpg, but over 5000miles I average 26-28mpg summer, 22-25mpg winter.

Our 2014 RAV over estimates mpg by 1.5-2.0 consistently. Interesting your 2013 is spot on. I got tired of keeping gas records after 2 years with it but it was just over 28 mpg actual. Different climate and conditions.

What I noticed was that in one year 2,278.124 gallons of gas was consumed. When you think of it, owning a car is a death of a thousand cuts to your check book. Don't get me wrong, I'm all in, I just never kept such good record of how much $$$ I was burning.

I now realize now that I'm ready for a 300 mile range, fast charge electric car.

Maybe not exactly. It's not clear if all 4 are running concurrently or if OP is showing average mileage of 4 different cars from different years.

Well actually it kinda is terrible. I average about 30mpg in an AWD car with a 200cc larger engine. So uh yeah, don't try to tell me it's not terrible.

The first three cars are all being used concurrently. The numbers are all for the last year (2015-2016).

The Integra, as stated, was from 2013.

During the last year, as a family, we bought 1,592.811 gallons of gas. I did record the costs of the gas as well, but didn't add them up in this case.

In our part of Canada, gas is roughly $3 per gallon in US dollars, so one year's gas cost us approximately $4,800 US, or approx $6,500 Cdn.

I've been tracking all of my fuel-ups on fuelly.com for over a year, so I also have this data.

1992 Honda Accord: 323.67 gallons to travel 7988 miles last year, for an average mpg of 24.68.

2006 Ford Ranger 4.0: 295.72 gallons to travel 4634 miles, for an average mpg of 15.72.

More hard numbers. And they're about what I would expect for vehicles in those classes.

I think most folks have no idea what their vehicle actually gets. They either guess, or they go by the "tankful", both of which methods are quite inaccurate.

I find it interesting that the much-vaunted on-board mileage readout isn't necessarily accurate.

For my 530i for 2015:

Avg MPG: 23.0
Avg Miles/Fuel-Up: 373.4
Total Gallons Fueled: 162.70
Total Miles Tracked: 3,734.0
