My Wife banned Facebook in our home since on or about 2005. She is a psychotherapist working exclusively with middle aged women and saw a lot of marriage issues related to facebook activities.

My current boss insisted I have facebook so I could screen very important postings that were happening on facebook.

What I discovered was facebook marketplace. So easy to use- a world of difference over craigslist. Last night (Sunday) at 6pm discovered the GE profile built in microwave bit the dust. It was built in 2007. I went to facebook market place, found the exact microwave just 15 miles away selling for $50. Had it installed before 830pm. On a Sunday night. Have found numerous other solutions on marketplace since I joined facebook a few months ago.

I know facebook is a hated company.....but have to say I am amazed at how helpful marketplace can be/ is.

Haha, Facebook didn't cause those issues. Facebook is what people make it. Some overdo it, some use it to keep in touch with people, but anyone that blames Facebook needs to look in the mirror to see what the real issue is.

All I can say is if you become the escort/ protection detail for the Swedish Bikini Team.... you will likely have a marriage challenge sooner or later, that you would not have if you instead worked daily as a welder on a pipeline.

I've found FAR fewer flakes and weirdos respond to things I've sold on Facebook. Never once was I asked if I would accept a payment arrangement when I sold the Fiero. So far, it's been nothing but positive experiences.

I think your wife is a very smart lady.
When you see ads popping up on FB pages, that you searched for on Google, or something you asked Alexa for, you'll see what I mean.
Just makes you wonder.

Welcome to the internet (??). You'll get those same ads on Google, websites you visit, and so on. That's how ad networks work on the internet and it's not something unique with Facebook.

I use FB to sell stuff all the time. It's works well.

A couple of the private groups I'm in are fun because people can talk to each other about whatever brings you there.

The rest of it is straight up garbage.

My thoughts exactly.

I have a few friends internationally who I stay in touch with via Facebook as well.

I quit using FB a year ago. Miss a few people but not enough to start back using it again. Made it through the whole election without any drama or people posting and needing reassurance.

Facebook is like the rest of the Internet, or the World for that matter. A mix of the good, bad and ugly. I too find great deals on FB Marketplace, too much to list here. Sometimes it's like Walmart - just look it up, go and pick it up, when I need it. It helps that I live in a relatively affluent and crime-free area. I only ran into flakes when I listed a car for sale.

There certainly is lots of competition among some people on Facebook, but I find it useful for keeping up with friends who have moved (or stayed) all over the country.

Instagram is all about (and only about) LOOK AT ME AIN'T I PRETTY. It is impossible to keep an "open" profile without being "followed" by fake females with fake celebrity (or even porn star) profiles. A quick reverse image search, and then I report and block them. So far 100% of people who followed me spontaneously have had fake profiles. I haven't found an actual use for it yet, except for tracking my oldest child's friends. One quickly learns which ones have good judgement... and which ones don't. As a parent, I find that aspect alone to be useful.
