( old tv ) RCA model # f27443 will not turn on and

making buzzing noise when I plug in, I had to unplug the cable for the buzzing noise to stop.

Its an old tv I bought in 2001 or 2002, it quit working , so I was plan to turn it into a fish tank ( it was silly project I was plant back then ),

Its rains tonight, bore so I decide to go to the garage , pop the hood on my antique mustang ( checking oil... ), I accident bump into this old tv when I look for an oil bottle .

anyway I was thinking turn this into a little project, trying fixing this tv.

any one good with repair these old tv, or any idea why it not turn on and its making buzzing noise when I plug it in. Thanks

If it's buzzing just plugging it in, the power supply is probably shot. Unfortunately, when they go, they sometimes take out other parts, and it becomes prohibitively expensive to repair. Besides, that old, it would only support analog. Sounds like good candidate for a fish tank.

Capacitor Plague...

I had a Samsung that would not turn on after 2 years. Took it apart, replaced the capacitors, presto...

Make sure you use the correct ones, proper voltage AND temperature, and that they are in correctly, not backwards...

That wiki isn't entirely accurate. The capacitor plague goes back farther than 2002...

I was repairing PCs from 1996-2002, and the peak of the failures seemed to have been around 2001 but existed in the late 90s as well. The majority of my work was on Compaq machines circa 1995-2000. I can't even count the number of cans I've found laying in the bottom of the cases of these machines - some had 5 or 6 at one time.

Bad (cheap, imperfect, mediocre chemistry) electrolytic capacitors have plagued the electronics industry in one form or another for decades.
The failure rate was known by all but continued to occur (like GM ignition switches)

The schematic I posted above shows the main reason a CTC169 SMPS fails, the caps are circled.
There was also a couple of rectifier diodes in the secondary that would short too.
I replaced hundreds of them over the years.
