In cleaning out my garage today, I came across a few quarts of older oil left over from prior purchases and cars I no longer have. Can anyone tell me if these quarts are still useful?

1. Quaker State 10W40 (SG, SF/CC, CD)

2. Mobil 10W30 (SG, SF/CC, CD)

With the SL specs out, I wouldn't go older than anything SJ vintage. I would toss them also

My current vehicles are a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer (136,000 miles) and a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor (15,000 miles). I use Mobil 1 0W20 in each of these.

The shelf life of motor oil is about 4-5 years, so it seems these ones are past their prime unfortunately.

Xmas gift was a Craftsman lawn chipper/vac and it came with a bottle of 30W oil. It was SG. Wonder if that oil is really really old or they still make this stuff only for mowers etc?

Small air-cooled engines heat oil more than automotive engines, hence the recommendation for 30W instead of multiweight.
