I picked up an old Ferris walk behind mower that has been sitting for years and years. Got it running and driving in no time. It even mows well. I want to change out the hydraulic oil but it says to only use 20w20 motor oil and I can’t find any info about a modern substitute. I can’t find either 20w20 or SAE 20 so maybe SAE 30 would be the next best thing? What would you use?

Note the above is non-detergent...

PSC says that Mobil Delvac 1220 is equivalent to 20W-20...

im sure the supertech hydraulic oil will be just fine. hydraulic oils are rarely thicker than a 20 grade. nd 30 will probably be ok as well.

Thanks all. I’ll probably try straight 30 first. All it does is go forward and back. Steering is done with a hand brake on each side.

My Ransomes Bobcat, which I'm sure has a very similar hydrostat system, calls for 10w30. I changed it a few years ago after probably a decade of use and it still looked really good. I probably didn't need to change it.

Ancient thread, don't know if anyone is still paying attention but gotta ask... Did you ever find any of this oil?
I just went to an auction, no April fool's but the sale was held on 4/1
I have no less than 48 CASES of QS 20w20 in my garage at this moment. Location near Chicago

Hey I never did find any 20w20 but I ran SAE 30 and it seems fine.
