Just switched my OS and bought an Apple imac G5. The computer is built in the 17" widescreen LCD display. I cant stand looking at the LCD screen. I can see pixels and it bothers me. Looking at small print in PDF files is awful. You do however dont have the glare that a CRT has, big deal. You can change the position of your head a tad and get a totally apperance of the screen. I have come to the conclusion that people must like LCD screen because of the sexy apperance and size they offer. I Hate to be like this, but the mac sucks for web browsing, I cant tell you how many times Safari (macs web exlporer) has gave me a messege and shut down while surfing the web. Oh well, I guess I can return it.

I'm another fan of CRTs. Moving video looks so much nicer. Sure it's probably better in high-end flat screens but the junk sold at best buy and included sight-unseen with mail order computer packages is like looking at a 1995 notebook.
I like the LCDs from an energy saving and radiation emissions standpoint but they'd have to be cheaper to compete, for me.

Depends on the LCD model & maker. Older Compaq/HP's are the pits, while the newer Sony X-Brite models are simply great.
Turn off anti-aliasing, by default it's on. That feature really only looks goot on a CRT. Don't know why it's on by default.
Skip Safari completely and grab firefox web browser from www.getfirefox.com. I use it 99% of the time for web browsing from my mac. Works great. See the Firefox tuning tips in the forum that I posted some time ago for gaining extra speed from the browser.
After you apply those speed tweaks, it runs faster than on a PC!

I have an 8 month old 17 inch BenQ LCD screen with a fast "response time" so it looks just like a CRT. There is no shadowing effect of lower end LCDs. I am at school and for those late night projects, my eyes don't hurt like they did with my 17 inch CRT (15 inch viewable)
I prefer a good LCD. Besides, you will be amazed how much real estate suddenly appears on your desk when you change.

I prefer LCD, and I will never buy another CRT. It's easier on the eyes, uses less power, takes up less space, and the image looks better (truly flat and free of distortion). They aren't even much more expensive now.
Many people have their LCD's set up wrong though, and the image quality is poor because of it. If the LCD has 1280x1024 pixels, then that's what the resolution needs to be set to or else the monitor has to combine or leave out pixels to make the lower resolution image.

lcd -- less heat. picture is clearer (if you get the resolution and phase right).
I use Safari on my iMac and Mozilla on my Linux machines. My experience has been that Safari is compatible with far more websites and plug ins than Mozilla. And I like mozilla.
I have not had the problem with Safari that you describe. You might try an online update. It could be an older bug that has been fixed.
Try this:
With Safari open and while connected to the internet, click on the apple menu and go to software updates. That will tell you what is out of date. Pick and choose what to download.
OS X is based on unix and it is very secure and very stable. It should work for you.

yeah you need a good LCD. Interesting that the imac one isnt all that great - from what Ive seen, usually mac hardware is pretty well specced out and of good quality, unlike PCs.
You need to compare to a good LCD. Samsung syncmaster or one of the sony models. Also, make sure the picture is fully adjusted. Ive found (not your issue but all the same), that if an LCD is attached via a VGA port, that sometimes adjustments need to be made for optimal crispness and clarity. I only buy samsumgs, and they do really well, and have an auto adjust feature if there is a bit of an image issue. Never had a problem.
It is interesting that when swapping from one type of screen to another, your eye can pick out subtle differences. These days I use a CRT at work and an LCD at home. All in all, the LCD is the winner, even for movies like the MSN video feeds, etc.
