This one has me thinking...in a earlier thread-someone mentioned the the Motorcraft oils are now 60% synthetic. (was pretty sure the old SM version was only 20-25%). I had my thinking since I haven't seen too many spec changes for the new Ford cars/trucks, even with the DI engines added. Could explain that....

I'm pretty sure I've read that MC syn-blend has always had a good % of S-K group-III in it - I think it's always had over 50% syn content, which is what made it SUCH a good deal. Don't quote me on that, but I'm sure that's why it's always been seen as such a good deal.

I am going to try MC 5W-20 on my next OCI. Cheapest I've seen is 14.99 for the 5qt jugs which makes it 2.99/qt. Is this a good price? I know prices keep going up, but with a quality blend like this should I stock up at this price?

I would. Stores in my area are charging $4.99/qt for the same stuff. I'm not sure about WM prices though.

the problem i have with stocking up is the oil companies are always coming out with newer and better formulations, not to mention newer API and ILSAC specs. and if you already have a giant stash of oil you are stuck using that until it runs out. there are also routinely deals on different brands of oil that you can take advantage of throughout the year.

@semaj281 - I bought one of the 5qt jug at AAP. The funny thing about this is the individual qts are 4.99. My local walmart has the 5qt jugs 18.99. AAP - MC 5W-20 5qt jug @jmsjags - I was thinking of starting a stash but not sure if I should.

Stash up on oil when there is a good promo, which there will always be. For one of my cars, I have enough oil for 3 oils changes / 3 years, with Fully Synthetic Oil that I mostly purchased for $1 a quart. For the other car I need to find a deal on 9qts of MB229.5 in the next couple of months.

M1 0W40 is approved for MB 229.5, Autozone has 5qt M1 + Bosch oil filter for $30. Buy 2 oil changes then you have 10qt and 2 filters.

I think Motorcraft is a great oil. Most of the 175k on my 01 Escape was with MC. Its got QSUD in it now though. The difference in price is so small that I now think QSUD full syn may now be a better buy if I extend the OCI a little.

Very True..... cheers

Most all Group III come from crude oil - ITS NOT SYNTHESIZED. Biggest lie foistered on the public by Major Oil Cos and the NAB. That said, the 5w-20 MC_SS seems to have something VERY slickery in it. Secret sauce.
