First, let me say that I'm new to this site, and I'm impressed with the knowledge of many of the members that frequent the forum.

Now to my question, just by accident I ran across this site, http://oilextreme.com/ just the other day. Makes all sorts of claims, and it seems to have the knowledge of chemistry to back it up. I'm always skeptical about any claims of a new product, so, has anyone had a chance to verify any of the claims presented?

Thanks!

John

This will be moved to the "Additives, Fuel, Oil, Cleaners" section soon.

I believe MolaKule said the same components are already available in off the shelf Redline.

It seems Terry Dyson (Dyson Analysis) believes there is some use for this stuff. I would try and do a search on the AFOC section.

There was some question if it was cost-effective in a street car.

Here is a quote from the site:

"Oil Extreme™ "Better Than Synthetic" Motor Oil is specially formulated using the new Group II, very highly refined, hydrocracked and catalytic dewaxed petroleum base oil. This "white water" as it is called is so pure that it is crystal clear. It is processed in special plants built by several major oil companies, under high temperatures and pressures to remove all the sulfur, nitrogen and oxygen compounds that normal solvent extraction processes can't remove.
By eliminating these harmful compounds in the base oil it is possible to formulate engine oils with oxidation stability equal to or greater than products based on 100% synthetic oils. They have excellent thermal degradation properties, and perform especially well in high-temperature applications like racing."

I wonder how much it is a quart for this "Oil Extreme".

I'd rather use Chevron Supreme personally.

"The Oil Extreme Concentrate is an extreme pressure additive package booster which is used to boost the oil’s additive package after 3,000 miles of usage. That means they can safely double their drain interval to 6,000 miles. With the extra miles per gallon they will get, and double the oil life, Oil Extreme is far more economical than using regular oil. And that's especially true when you consider the reduction in wear the customer’s engine will get. "

Does this outfit really think we're *that* stupid to believe the above marketing drivel?

What's so disturbing about the website is that they wrap ordinary marketing claims so heavily around a bunch of big words in an attempt to impart credibility.

That site has no credibility. And I'd put my money on my XD-3, or off-the-shelf Mobil-1 being far better oil than the overpriced stuff they sell.

Heres another quote I like:

"The sulfonate pole of the molecule bonds to the metals during hydrodynamic lubrication while its light petroleum end, an alkylate, forms the contact with the oil, forming a secondary film that provides a lower coefficiency of friction between itself and the oil film."

Are they just making this stuff up as they go along? No credible chemist or engineer would ever write such nonsense.

Here's another funny quote:

"George is so excited about this program that Jet Set Life Technologies, Inc. is offering each of our operators $200.00 towards lodging at a Comfort Inn near Steve's shop, or we will sell you your next two drums of oil at $500.00 each plus shipping."

I don't know about you, but paying $9/gallon for Group II dino in 55 gallon drum isn't exactly 'cheap' or a discount at all.

pitzel am I missing something? I seem to remember Terry actually testing this stuff and finding some measurable benefit although it was short lived. Unfortunately I am having little luck finding it.

I Found a UOA! 5W-30 OilExtreme Started with a 18 TBN

and ended up with a 10 TBN

and 4400 calcium

after 6000 mi in a engine that tested positive for glycol

It may be overpriced but I wouldnt call it Snake Oil.

I think I found the information that Terry would have been talking about regarding Oil Extreme.
Their concentrate has a TBN of 230. So, I don't know what else is in it, and I don't know if it's safe to add to your oil, and I don't know if the TBN boost is long-term, but this stuff would logically REALLY REALLY boost your TBN.
I gotta' say though, when I look at their web site, something raises my hackles and makes me think shout SCAMMER!!! out loud.

Quote:
Oil Extreme™ has an unheard of TBN (Total Base Number) of 320. Motor oil and other additives have a TBN of less than 10. By adding just 1 ounce of Oil Extreme™ to each quart of your regular oil you can now safely extend drain intervals two to three times. You'll also achieve extremely high levels of corrosion resistance, and because of its unique detergent properties keep the inside of your engine spotless.

Personally, I'd be tempted to use this instead to dope TBN: http://www.exxonmobil.com/USA-English/Marine/PDS/GLXXENMRNEMMobilgardM50.asp

Tom Jones,
good catch on the Mobil oil.

Notice how they advocate oil mixing in the PDF ?

BTW, a -6C pour point...what do they make that stuff out of ?

I took this plunge about 6 months ago. Her 03 Camry has 4 quarts of this, and is now at about the 6000 mile mark. Somehow I just have a hard time investing the money for the suction sampler and the test. I think the engine runs quieter than ever.
