Thats what I've always been wondering, when an oil has a TBN of 3 left, doesn't it mean that the TBN has stablized? I've noticed that during the first 5K or so, the TBN drops rapidly. When the TBN reaches 3, does that mean it no longer drops rapidly? I'm new to this stuff.

Michael:

Your thoughts on this seem conflicted. As much as the rest of us may want to help, all we can offer is our own perhaps-well-founded speculation. You want to know which oil will hold for 7500 "for sure" but you don't want to do used oil analysis. But for you, the best answer will come from a one-time (maybe twice) used oil analysis. This will tell you "for sure" (or as close to that as you can get) whether your pick to make 7.5k is a good one. You don't have to do a used oil analysis every oil change to get good, helpful info. With all other strategies, you're just gambling, hoping that for your car/use/oil, you've picked the right number. My suggestion would be either the M1 or GC if it's readily available in you area (I've had outstanding results with both, based upon used oil analysis).

Actually I should also put it this way, I really want to avoid duing a used oil analysis as much as possible. If I use a oil, I want to start out using it knowing that it will last 7500 miles without a doubt.

Just go to the Synergynracing dot website , get the toll free number and order a case of 3w-30 or 5w30 from Rowland and be happy

I think if it takes a entire year to put that 7500 miles on you will still be good for the go w/o analysis in a good engine .

It's good stuff

EDIT:

If you have more than one engine using synlube might as well buy a 20 quart pail ... it costs less overall at 102.00 a pail and shipped free .

Or you could use whats quite likely Mobils best oil .... the 0w-40 .

Saabs algorithm is fairly precise . In this link you'll see they advise 2 years of service with the Mobil 0w-40 if the miles are not accumulated .

Look at all the specs this oil meets . My opinion is anyone who thinks this oil shears and creates sludge precursors more so than the lighter wt Mobil's should ....... think again

The Mobil 0w-40 has the highest flash point and always , always shows the lowest insoluables through analysis . It's a bit different chemistry than it's brothers in the Supersyn line-up .

If one were to need a light 40wt it would be far better to use and trust this fully formulated 0w-40 that the guys who get paid the big bucks conjured up than to mix 30wt Mobils with 15w-50 Mobil . Some analysis's show this oil just get going at around 6500- 7500 miles
