1,500 miles...that might take a year with this car! LOL

Back on topic. Are there any 'rules of thumb' or grades that have a tendency to run cooler in my type of engine?

I like the suggestion someone mentioned of running of running a HDEO like Rotella. You don't need flat tappets or a diesel to run HDEO's -- the modern Group II formulated HDEO's are so good some use them in gas engines because they perform so well.

Since your temperatures really aren’t "that" high, I also would consider dropping down to at least a 40 weight -- 15w40. Chevron Delo 400, Rotella T, …… several choices, and they should cost considerably less than synthetics.
