Do drums of motor or gear oil have a shelf life?

Particularly wondering about something like a 5 gal drum unsealed on day one and then used over the course of 5 years anyone thing there are any reasons not to do this or any negatives associated with oil stored over extended time periods.

Also any opinions on a 55 gal drum of methanol that has had a hand pump on the open pour spout? I had one of these for about 8 years

TIA,
Anthony

The oil is fine as long as it was sealed after each use. I'd be very weary of the methanol though, esp if it was not resealed after each use.

Methanol has a hand pump over the opening should keep air contact to a minimum. I believe there is a one way ball in the pump that helps build pressure to get the siphon going so that should also be a seal against outside air getting in.

Think shaking or stirring barrel is a good idea or do you guys think it breaksdown in to other compounds? Ive been told it does and also been told it is fine so i really do not know.

TIA,
Anthony
