Oil Recommendation for 2 Vehicles

Background info: Currently using Maxlife in an older Suburban, and PP in new Acadia. But I just got an older commuter car for my drive to and from work. I have also used Havoline Dino a lot in vehicles as well.

1st Vehicle:
1. What kind of vehicle you have
- 1999 Toyota Camry that I just purchased with 135k miles. I am not forsure what the previous owner used, but it looks like it was well maintained by Dealer. Purchased because Suburban was just not cutting the commute.
2. What your owner's manual says -- not just viscosity, but certifications (look for acronyms like API SM, ILSAC GF-4, etc.) and change intervals as well
- No Owner's manual.
3. Where you live
- North of Indianapolis
4. How you drive (easy? hard? fast? slow?)
- 70 MPH Highway
5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?)
- Highway trips to work, 70 miles per day.
6. Whether your car has any known problems
- Looks like has been well maintained by Dealer.


2nd Vehicle:

- 2009 GMC Acadia.
2. What your owner's manual says -- not just viscosity, but certifications (look for acronyms like API SM, ILSAC GF-4, etc.) and change intervals as well
- Follow OLM. Currently using PP which has 7500 miles and OLM is still saying 28%
3. Where you live
- North of Indianapolis
4. How you drive (easy? hard? fast? slow?)
- easy
5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?)
- More short trips around town, but a drive of about 10 miles to work everyday, with only 1 stop.
6. Whether your car has any known problems
- No problems.

For the toyota 5w30 high mileage with drains for dino of 4,000 to 5,000 miles.
Or 5w30 Synthetic with drains of 8,000 to 10,000. 70 miles one way is not svere service, IMO.

For the Acadia I would use A good synthetic 5w30 with 7500-8500 oci (or what your warranty syas so as not to void it). this one's driving sounds more severe to me

If your happy with the PP that you are using in the Acadia, I would use that in both vehicles (5w30).

+1 and I would do 5000 OCI's but that is just me.

I believe that DI engine is pretty hard on oil. I'm not sure if I would feel comfortable running PP for 7500 miles, but I'll wait for someone with more knowledge about that engine to chime in.

For the Camry, I would run the cheapest, respectable dino out there and not look back. Its a commuter, and a Toyota. No need for anything more expensive.

The Toyota Camry will do well on any of the following Rotella T Synthetic 5w40,Mobil 1 0W40,Mobil 1 5W30,Amsoil 5W30,Pennzoil Platinum 5W30. I live in Michigan and have a 1995.5 Toyota Tacoma 2.7L ,2002 Toyota Tundra 4.8 V8, 2003 and 2007 Toyota Camry 2.4 i4's and I maintain all of them as they are mine or my Mom and Dad's. We all drive a mix of city and hwy miles. I drive like I just stole my car and am running fromt he cops! I have two really really good UOA on this site. We live in Michigan currently and see harsh winter's. My first choice would be Mobil 1 0W40 for the Camry and I would not change it any sooner then every 6 months and I would run it year round.

My father inlaw owns an Arcadia and it does just fine on Amsoil 5W30. He is an Amsoil Dealer so that is why he use's AMsoil. Mobil 1 5W30,Mobil 1 0W40 and Rotella T Synthetic 5w40 all work great in just about anything GM makes.I worked for GM for 7 years for 10th level and higher Executives and in addition to quality control and forensic failure tear down I was on all kinds of special projects. I worked closely with Childress Racing and the Corvette Lemanns Team not directly I helped keep the support vechiles opperating and I also made sure any specialty parts that they ran out of where made ASAP and shipped out ASAP so I had a lot of exposure that few at GM ever recive....Lot os inside data and such. I would run Mobil 1 0W40 in this engine as well as my first choice for winter but might consider a 5W40 come spring.


As for what my Toyota manuals call for they all call for 5W30 or 10W30 as the recomended viscosity except for the 2007 Camry it recomends 0W20 or 5W20 as the recomended lubricant.

None of the engines you are careing for are particularly hard on oil. If you like dino I would use 5W30 inthe winter and the summer as most 5W30's have higher viscosity and hths then many conventional 10w30 oils and better viscosity Index usualy as well!
