oil rec. 2005 sierra 6.0

I have a 2005 gmc sierra with the 6.0l vortec gas engine. I have just under 108,000 miles and the truck is mainly a daily driver but it also is plowed with and frequently tows loads under 5,000 lbs with the occasional load of around 10-11,000 lbs. it is somewhat "souped up" with a k/n intake, hypertech programmer, and custom flowmaster exhaust. i was recently sold a carquest filter with 5w30 wolfs head syn pack oil. i have never heard of it and i was looking for a review on it. i drive the truck hard sometimes and want to make sure this oil is all its cracked up to be.

also, if many do not like it, what is a good oil and filter to use consistently?

I have used mobil 1 oil with a mobil 1 filter, pennzoil syn with a purolator gold filter, etc.

Is Mobil 1 really the best? what oil and filter should i be trying to use all the time? do i need high mileage or a cleaning oil such as castrol gtx?

ditch the K&N, and run any major brand 5w30 as per manufacturer recommendation.

The carquest filter is a good quality one but I don't know anything about Wolf's Head. I did see on their website that they've been around since 1879, so they must have been doing something right. http://www.wolfshead.com/

There is no "best" oil for all situations.

The Mobil products are excellent, but so are many other brands. Wolf's Head has been around for some time, and has decent products as well.

The 6.0L gasser engine in your truck is a very stout engine. Normal, routine care based upon the OEM guidelines will make it far outlast your desire to own it.

i dont have any experience with wolfs head oil, the carquest filter is made by purolator and is a good filter. about the same as a purolator classic

really it depends on what you want to spend. my opinion is that Pennzoil Platinum (very good at cleaning!) and a bosch or Pure1 oil filter is about the best you can get for the money but with that K&N air filter your not going to be able to push the interval too far because of silicone contamination.

i think if it were mine i would run valvoline maxlife, GTX High Mileage, or Pennzoil High Mileage 5w30 and ac delco, wix, bocsh or purolator oil filters with a 3000 mile oil change interval. the ac delco is prolly going to be the cheapest and it will hold up fine to a short oci.

mobil 1 is respected around here but im more of a SOPUS and ASHLAND fan.

your right! carquest and napa are wix. still a good filter

musta got them confused with the pennzoil and motorcraft filters

Carquest filters are very good, most are Wix but some of there air filters I bought are German and made by Mann.

Run any name brand 5w30 in that motor that needs current API specs, and change it when the OLM goes off. The motor will run just fine until the truck is junked. No need to get fancy with a 6L.
