I have a 2002 F-150 with 67,500 miles on it. The truck has never pulled anything, and has the 4.6 liter V8. I have always had the oil changed every 5K. I have always used regular Valvoline 10W-30, except at 25K. I used Mobil 1 Extended and kept it in for 10K before going back to the Valvoline. My daughter is now driving the truck. She will only put 4K-5K miles a year on it. Since it will only be driven so few miles, I am thinking of just changing the oil once a year. I am thinking of going to Pennzoil Platinum, 5W-30 with a Purolator one filter. Or should I change it every 6 months using regular oil like Mobil clean 5000 along with a MC filter?

I just tried Supertech 5W30 synthetic in my 2001 4.6 F 150 as they were out of the PP 5W20. No oil loss, as good or better mileage. I will do a UOA for curiosity at the change. I am on a 5k change schedule. I have 97K on it and used it for hauling and hunting. It has turned into a daily commuter with 5 drivers in the house and 5 vehicles. Guess who gets the old truck..... Why did I have children......

I agree for a 5k, Once a year OCI, Motorcraft 5w-30 since you have been running 10w-30. Motorcraft FL-820s, can't go wrong.

With those short trips, I would do 6 month oil changes with MC 5w20 and the FL820s filter. You should use what the vehicle is spec'd for.

A name brand 5w30 and a FL820s at every 5000 miles will work just fine. My '99 F150 with the 4.6 is presently on this routine, and has 175,000 miles on it.

Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 with a Motorcraft FL-820S is probably the best combo for you.
