I've seen several references on this board to something that puzzles me. What can there be about a modern engine that will cause different results in oils? In other words, not counting grade, why will an oil do better in one engine than another?

Some engines run hotter than others, rev higher, have smaller oil capacity and the design of their valvetrain will simply stress the oil much more than others. Case in point the Toyota 3.0 V6s, which kill the oil in just a few thousand miles.

Then you take the opposite, a large V8 pushrod engine with a large oil capacity and low operating rpm on the highway and it is easy on the oil.
