Oil Question - Mazda 3 86K km.

Hey my friends.

I just bought used Mazda 3 GT 2.3L engine
2004 86Km on it ....

I don't know what oil was used and im not able to find out
*so i will use conv. oil... ( don't wanna brake my seals )

What oil and oil filters would u recommend price is not a issue ..
it may be expensive...

possibly 5W20. I would strongly recommend the use of some robust Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 or 5W30, and in light of spirited driving, 5W30 would be nice.

I'm getting good results when running Motorcraft 5W20 semi-syn on my dad's 7th gen civic so far (call calls for 5W20 all around).

what about Oil like Mobil 1 ?
bak i Europe i always used liqui moly i dnt think they offer it in Canada :/

Motorcraft 5W-20 is a great oil for the price for 5,000 mile oil changes. Check the used oil analysis section on this site. PP is the "synthetic" Pennzoil oil, Pennzoil Platinum. It has also shown really good used oil analysis. For the money it looks to be a great value if you intend on going more than 5,000 miles between oil changes. The used oil analysis section of this site has a wealth of knowledge when comparing how various oils perform in real life circumstances.

I dnt think its good idea to switch 2 synthetic, when someone before was using conv. oil for so many KMs...

Don't worry too much about switching to synthetic after running conventionals. My car is 14 years old with a history of 3-5k dealer conventional oil changes and when switched to Amsoil, it didn't leak or consume a drop. 86,000 kilometers on a newer car like the Mazda3 isn't something that you need to worry about. I'd say you'd be safe switching to synthetic.

Personally I would use the following over all above recommendations (which are all good recommendations) - at whatever wgt the car is spec'd -

Amsoil

Schaeffer

Mobil 1 (but personally I wouldn't use the 5w30 or 10w30 in the Mobil line, but would use the 20wts).

The above are the top of the top shelf.

Have fun w/ that Mazda. I have an 88 323 and still love it (it gets Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w40)

I just switched over to Amsoil XL 5w-20 in my 3i. Great oil and has fantastic cold properties for your winters in Canada. You can go 6 months/7,500 miles with this oil.

Should easily hand summers there. If you want an extra margain of protection they make the same oil in a 5w30.

Mobil 1 5w30 and 10w30 have a bad name here right now.

Yep, year round is no problem. As mentioned above, you could also go with the 5w30 version.

oh i see i was always happy with Mobil 1 back in Europe ... but that was some time agoo

So if i will go with Motorcraft or Amsoil im on good side right ?
and like i said im not sure if i should switch to synthetic ... i like to change my oil every 5K. so final decision guys what oil is right for me

Actually it's a 1988 Mazda 323 (around 215k miles). Still has very nice compression (good acceleration and still gets around 38 mpg - in it's prime it got 40mpg - so still holding its own). In the 1994 thru 1996 time frame it used Amsoil for true 1 yr 25k mile OCIs (I had a long commute back then).

I didn't order my list (Amsoil, Schaeffer, M1) by priority. All three of these are state of the art in petroleum engineering.

If its 5K drains you are sticking to go with the Motorcraft. The Ams would be the choice for extended drains double what are thinking.
