I hear that. sad that the economy is not doing well but gas prices remain so high. if we want to stimulate spending , lets free up some money that we are spending on gas.

The guaranteed method for an individual can cut his gasoline prices is to drive less. I would guess that the average person complaining about the cost of his monthly gasoline bill does little to cut down un necessary driving.

But Al, they DESERVE to drive a V8-whatever that they cant afford (lease or payments) that is set up so they are in the lap of luxury. Life is just so hard, everyone deserves this. ...And they deserve it NOW. Not later, not combined in a trip, NOW. So those unnecessary trips are necessary, because we deserve them.

Well, China's economy is not so crummy and they're not printing money like the Western, developed nations have been.

I used to give my dad grief about this, too. He'd complain about the price of gas, while pulling up with a 4x4 half ton with the biggest V8 available, which he drove in the morning to go out for breakfast and to come home. But, I need a truck, he said. Up here, we get the standard rant about oil companies raising the price of fuel for the long weekends. Of course, that just indicates that people ignore supply and demand. When demand for a product, such as fuel, goes up, prices go up unless the supply rises. About half the time though, if the price does switch here before a long weekend, it actually goes down. No one ever notices that, or thanks the oil companies. They complain about the price raises, but a drop before the long weekend gets ignored. I don't like high gas prices any more than the next guy. However, we have the freedom and luxury to drive and the freedom to complain about it. Then again, just because we're free to do something doesn't mean we should do something.

Driving less and walking more than ever, but this weekend's $5.55/USGal diesel price, couipled with last month's $0.22/kWhr electricity price is becoming majorly annoying. $100 to fill up used to mean that some country was about to get the snot beat out of them, now it's every time.

While true....but at this point people are getting hit hard from every angle. When even basics like food and heat/keeping the lights on are getting bat crazy pricey...we have a problem here. Of course, that leads to a another issue there....

Why stop there? Why not just not have a car and not drive all together? Then gas can be jacked up to $4-5/gal or more and it won't matter. We should apply this pricing concept to everything so the "correct" consumption is all that can be afforded, a bag of rice and potatoes. Then there'd be lots of good jobs just growing and harvesting rice and potatoes. Too high a unit price is still too high whether one uses a lot, some or none.

I tend to do what makes sense not what is ridiculous.

Marina's circulation is terrible and heating oil costs more than gas. Oh well, Irene dropped a bunch of cherry trees out back.

Ah, but the macro/micro thing means if one person cuts their consumption 5% they aren't rewarded with a 25% price cut. Some other jerk will cut in and take it. I still say, double the gas tax, but refund a gallon a day, provided you have a valid license, insurance, and are here legally. Use under 14 gallons a week, come out ahead.

This is what I always think to myself whenever I hear someone complaining about the price of gas. There are only two levels of gas pricing, high and higher. If you think gas prices are too high now, you're really not going to like where they're at in the near future.

Oh and you might be underestimating on that.

No one has mentioned a BUSINESS that requires fuel to run its trucks! Gasoline is already a huge expense, averages about 3500 dollars a month or so. Can't do much without it!

I was really annoyed, we filled up at the Angola Service Plaza near Buffalo on the way to Ohio last week. It as 3.65 a gallon. Two days later I was going with my grandmother to see her new house in Vermilion, and it was $2.99 at the exist on OH-2. I was like WHAT. Darn NYS gax tax
