This actually is not a gauge, but a two way indicator. If pressure is above a certain threshold, the needle goes to the mid zone of the "gauge." If little or no pressure, the needle goes to low side. There is no in between. A real gauge should vary with increase in RPM from idle up to the mid RPM range area.

Okay, I think that is right, but....on my '95 E150 I've noticed that the "indicator" will move as I drive. My "gauge" has the word N-O-R-M-A-L spelled out in between the low and high marks. Sometimes it reads on the "A" at 70 mph, and sometimes it is on the "A" idling at a stop sign. Most of the time it is on the "M". Once in awhile it drops to the "R".

It doesn't make sense to me, as the dial appears to move unrelated to cold engine, warm engine, city driving, highway driving, whatever.

My next filter will be a K&N...for no other reason than to see if it has any affect on the movement of that darn gauge, er ah, indicator thingamajig.
