He said 30,000 miles. For some people thats 10 years use out of a truck. It would be 5 for me. If the difference in price would gain him an extra year he would likely use it.

If it were mine I would get the pressure checked with a real gauge (To confirm a problem) then try what ever 15W40 HDEO was on sale locally. If that gets idle pressure up to 10 psi or better I would be happy.

Thanks for the correction. 30K would be about 2 years for me.

It is extremely unlikely that the oil pressure is actually 5 psi, as GM interrupts spark at 6 in most V8 engines.

Check the oil pressure sensor first. That's most likely.

Very old and tired new gen 350's usually still run 15 psi even when basically worn out.

You can run 40W and even 50W without harm in warmer climates.

I changed over to Mobil 1 15w50 with a Puralator filter and I havent seen it below 18psi even after 30 minutes on highway and then sitting in traffic 95 degrees with air running. Might have been some worn out oil and the filter that came off felt very heavy so it was probaly full of trash.

could be? but now with acceptable hot oil pressure the motor should be good for many miles.
just goes to show not everybody takes care of their vehicles like us. mike
