Oil Loss During Auto-Rx Treatment

I am considering performing an Auto-Rx treatment on my 1989 Chevy S-10 that currently has 228K miles on it. I am currently having to add a quart of oil every 400-500 miles. There is a small leak (about 1-2 oz during this time frame), but the main source of the loss is due to it being burned by the engine. Due to having to add about 3 qts of oil during the cleaning phase, would this lessen the effectiveness of the Auto-Rx treatment? Other than the oil burning, which started about 1.5 years ago, I have not had a problem since I purchased the truck new back in 1989.

Sorta, kinda, not really.

Auto-rx is polar. Thus it's going to attack the deposits and find it's way to the metal.

This is why it's needs to be "rinsed" away. Granted, I'm sure some of the auto-rx will find it's way to your tailpipe, but it will still have a chance to do a lot of cleaning.

Start with a thick monograde oil so there is less loss.

Instead of using the whole bottle at once, you could save a couple ounces to add at the halfway point.

Just follow the instuctions - you will still see good results, I believe. I saw even less consumption after a second treatment. I had same consumption before as you, and now has reduced to one quart consumed every 1500 miles. Must be rings now sealing better.

I premix say 5 litres in a jug then add say 4.5 litres to the engine. The remainder has Rx in the correct ratio for makeup oil. Easy.
