I have a very expensive Lawn Boy Mower equiped with a Honda engine.
It was loaned to my neighbor whose wife accidently put some gas in the engine oil spout on the mower. (I can not think that she put alot of gas in it becaue the oil measured properly.)
At anyrate that oil was dumped and replaced with 10w30 as described in the mower manual.
Some one told me that some gas in the engine oil could cause damage. Others tell me little if any damage could be caused. I do know that the mower was not run too long in that condition. Probably not more than an hour.
Now today I have goen out to mow my yard. The mower starts but after a few minutes it starts sputtering and smoking. After that it dies and as it dies it does a big backfire.
Ok I am stumped. this mower was running fine before this all happened. Now this. I can not think that the engine problems I am having today would be related to the gas in the oil issue. Do you?
I am beginning to wonder if she also put some old or dirty gas into it or possibly gas that was mixed with oil like a regular Lawn Boy would take.
(My honda engine on my Lawn Boy is a straight gas engine)
WOuld oil in the gas cause the symptons I am describing? If so what kind of damage will it cause. How can I correct it and get the mower running properly again? The obvious is to dump the gas that is in it out and put in new gas. But how do I clean the rest of the fuel system if it has had a oil-gas mixture in it.
would putting new gas in and then addin ga little fuel system cleaner or Staybil (sp) into teh new gas help to clean up the fuel system?
