Hi,

Live around Louisville, Ky. Mower engine is a Kohler Command 16hp, they say use 10w-30 due to hyd lifters. Engine has a full pressure lube system.

10w-30 seemed a little thin for an air-cooled engine on a hot day, always used straight 30 in 4 cycle air cooled engines in the past. I have been using Pennzoil 15w40 LL.

But now I've been wondering if this is really a good idea. I will use either:

Pennzoil 15w40 LL
Rotella T 10w30
Mobil 1 5w40 truck&suv

Would something else be better than the 15w40?

Thanks!

lamont, I think you're on the right track.

We've discussed this in general in a lot of recent threads. Do a search on "15W-40" and you'll pull up some good threads in this sub-section dealing with air-cooled engines and power equipment applications.

Because of the moly content, I'd substitute the newest version of Chevron Delo400 instead of Pennzoil Long Life. If you had asked me over a year ago, I would have preferred the Pennzoil.
