Now I'm the one who drive this car (nissan micra k11, 1.3 16v, CVT, year 1997) so i have to take care of it manteinance I only know that so far were used 10w40 or 5w40 semi synthetic oils the user manual says that the minimum requirements are API SJ or ACEA A3 temperatures in my zone are minimum -5°C and max 40°C first question: full synthetic or semisynthetic? second question: looking on some producer site, with their search engine, i find out strange results for example: -Shell suggests as top choice the Helix HX7C 5w40 (SL A3) and as standard choice the HX7 10w40 (SM A3) -Castrol top choice is Magnatec 5w40C3 (SM A3), standard is Magnatec 10w40 (SM A3) -Motul top choice is 8100 Eco-Nergy 5w30 (SL A5), standard is 8100 X-Clean (SM ??) but isn't 30 a low value for my zone? and why sometimes oils with API SL are listed as "top choice" when the "standard choice" is SM? thanks in adavnce for your attention!

No a heavy 30wt oil isn't too light for you're climate. The Motul oil you've mentioned is a good choice; I'd pick the one with the highest viscosity index. Another oil I like if it's available to you is the Lubro-Moly Long-tech 5W-30 with it's 178 VI.

5W-30 or 5W-40 will both work fine. Honestly, I'd use the 5W-30. That little 1.3L is going to have barely any power as it is, thicker oil might just eliminate what it has grin

Thank you guys! so for sure you suggest an oil with "5" for winter (and not 10) and there are different opinions between 30 or 40 for the "hot" value... so far it never had problem using always "40" Didn't had answer to the first question: it's better to buy one of these new full synthetic oils, instead of semisynthetic oils?

I also realized an excel file with some data comparison... maybe it can be useful for the forum! http://www.mediafire.com/?0hyxwly7w952xqp
