Oil for 2006 Kia Spectra5

It doesn't say anything about oil requirements on the cap. Just has an arrow pointing to the left and the word 'open'.

Maybe the oil cap info is a new phase in, I know my Kia is all new and the 06 Sedona is all new but I didn't pop the hood on it while I was at the dealership. I've had a 01, 2 04's and this 06. The 06 is the 1st kia I have had with an oil weight on the cap. My owners manual is some what more insistant on 5w20 by calling it prefered for all climates.

If you go to kiatechinfodotcom and get a log in for the rest of the system you can look up any TSB's, campaign etc, etc. You can also link to it straight from the kia home page just go to "kia owners" then "service info" you just need to register.

Oh I'd run a good 5w30, with allot of short trips the fuel dilution driven shearing will bring the 30w down to a high 20w by the end of the OCI.

Brons2 seems to be living in the past with regards to ZDDP levels. While ZDDP has been reduced in SM formulations, other equally or more effective antiwear agents have been substituted as verified by the lower permissable flat-cam tappet wear numbers demanded by the SM spec. (It's a mystery why some stubbornly cling to the urban myth that ZDDP is the only effective antiwear technology...)

The Hyundai/KIA shop manuals are essentially just one edition - that pertaining to the Korean home market, but translated to other market languages without any effort to reflect particular market advisories. The owner's manual oil recommendations reflect Hyundai/KIA's latest advisories for each market for the model year vehicle involved.

Well you SM zealots will be happy to know that I never could find any diesel rated 10w30. So I put in some Havoline dino 10w30 to replace the factory fill, whatever that might have been. UOA was not done, however, I will do it on this oil.

Factory fill was run for 338 miles, btw. Seems to run a bit smoother with the 10w30, with no loss of power. One caveat, I haven't run it anywhere near redline although I have done some acceleration in the 4500 rpm range.

On a side note, the Havoline comes in a gallon size at Advance Auto (and other places I am sure). The gallon and a new filter takes it right up the full mark on the dipstick. Very convenient.

I have yet to run through a full tank of gas, as I took delivery with 63 miles and a full tank. I am thinking of going and filling up before bed though so I can calculate mileage on the factory fill vs the Havoline 10w30.
