Which oil will be better M1 or PP? I am kind of scared of using PP since people say that when they started using PP their engines began to consume oil.

P.S. Is it safe to use 5w20 even though the MDX calls for 5w30?

I'm using Pennzoil Platinum right now and no consumption at all. I would continue to use what the manufacturer recommends (5w30, or better yet, 0W-30), although I doubt you'd do any harm using a 5W-20. I think you'd probably be well off using Mobil 1's 0W-30, considering your climate.

German Castrol is only a 0W-30. It would be a good choice, but some people have reported that Honda engines get 'sluggish' when a thick oil, like GC is used. I'd go with the PP; if you do get some consumption, it will probably only be for one change interval....

My guess of the reason why PP consume oil is due to its ester. When I ARX my MIL's camry engine. She said it leaked as well. For a used car that may have some leaky seal, this may be common.

No reason not to use 5W-20 if you want to. The same engine suddenly started specifying 5W-20 in 03, for no real reason other than fuel economy.
