This time it's the Fram/ST 3593a, WIX 51334, STP 2808, Pennzoil PZ-33 or Purolator Premium Plus L14459 filter size

The Pennzoil PZ-33 has 99 sq. in. of filter media. Has cardboard endcaps and uses a leaf spring for oil bypass. It's Fram made and the can was extremely tough to cut.

The STP 2808 has 77 sq. in. of filter media that was unevenly spaced. One side was nicely packed while the other was further apart. Uses a leaf spring for oil bypass.

Finally another surprise. The Purolator Premium Plus L14459 with 109 sq. in. of filter media. This thing was packed and unlike with other reports, this didn't have a string around the filter media. Unfortunately, unlike the other Purolator Premium+ I opened, the L14610, this has a simpler leaf spring for bypass and the can was the thinnest of this group.

I was in a rush and so my measurements may be a half-inch off, but that small difference won't make me choose Pennzoil or STP over the Purolator. The Purolator is also the least expensive when on sale for mid $2. This is the second Purolator filter media size wise that completely surprised me. I also am currently using a Fram Tough Guard in this size and will take that apart as soon as the oil interval is done and I plan on using the famed ST 3593a after which apparently does well in this size. I don't think I'll be able to get to that until after September.

The table below is a compilation of similar sized filters from two other sites. Each site is available below:

of all the purolator filters that I cut open the only ones tended to be the really big ones, such as the the FL-1a, 30001, which are 3.5" diameter. For some reason anything smaller, like the 3.25" diameter filter isn't needed.
