Absolutely air filter. Uoa's show little difference between decent quality oil filters.

An ill fitting air filter or poor quality filter media can suck in all kinds of contaminants that will cause wear.

Air filter for sure. It has by far the harder job. Incoming air is chock full of dirt of all sizes which needs to be removed.

In contrast, engine oil in a modern engine in good condition has relatively little contamination to deal with in the first place.

IMHO most air filters (except K&N and that's another controversial story) are roughly equal. I try very hard to avoid Fram oil filters at all costs, but their air filters don't look that bad to me.

I wouldn't say their all equal. I've noticed some quality differences, filter area, and even filter material differences in different brands.
