I was at AZ today and I found a little device that screws on the the oil pan where the drain bolt would be and is supposly makes OC easier. It looks like a vavle stem on a car tire...

Anyone use these?

I'm in the process of using one of these (Fram) as a return line from a bypass oil filter. Not quite hooked up yet. Looks to me like, as an oil drain, it would prevent some of the oil from draining out of the pan which I don't like. I even jack up one side of my car during oil drain to get the last little bit so you can see I'm cranky that way. In any case, it appears to work.

Just wondering if I should get one. Look like it could make things easier.

Thanks for the response!

I've been running these on my cars for a few years now:

Makes oil changes really easy. I use the one with the nipple on it, so all you need to do is put a small length of hose on the nipple, then drain it into your favorite container.

I installed Fram oil drains on two of my vehicles and will do a third at the next oil change. At least on my vehicles they don't hang down enough to get caught on anything and the amount of oil left in the pan is pretty small to worry about. I really like not getting hot oil on my hand and the oil being easy to catch. It also makes sampling a cinch. Try it, you'll like it.

I don't like them, they don't allow you to drain all the oil out of your pan seeing the threads are so long.

I've been using the Fumoto drain valve on both of my Nissan Sentras. There has never been a problem with either of them.

At one point I was concerned that a little oil could be left that would have come out with a drain plug removal. I drained the oil through the valve. After a good drain I removed the valve to see how much more oil would come out. Only a very few more drops came out. There was no reason for concern. Now, that's just my experience.

Never. No problems, no leaks, nothing. Ends the dreaded stripped-drain-plug-threads for good.

I have also been using Fumoto valves with no problems.. The valve is very high quality and has a positive spring-loaded lock. For a little extra peace of mind you can add a spring clamp for double protection.

I have purchased mine from www.lubespecialist.com ... They supply the clamp as an option...

I took out my fram sure drain also because I put on a bypass filter and won't use it for a VERY long time. I let it drain fully and then took out the fram and only a few drops came out also like posted above. No reason not to use them they work great and are only like $10 or so.

I chose not to use one because both of my drain plugs are magnetic. I like to inspect them and clean off any particles that may accumulate. I also seem to get just as messy if not messier changing the oil filter, so the little bit of mess a drain like this eliminates doesn't keep me clean because I still have to do the filters.

FYI, I did have a Fram installed for one oil change until I thought about my reasons above. Took it off the next change.
