I don't have anything anymore that uses oil. Thank goodness.
Valvoline and Rotella T do seem to produce more vapor out of the valve cover vent on my air cooled M/C.

Mobil Drive clean. 1 Qt - 500-800 miles.
Amsoil S2K 0W30 1 Qt - 2500-3000 miles.

My '97 Subaru (w/ 116,000 miles) consumes no amount of oil as noted on the dipstick. This is w/ Mobil1 (both tri-syn and SS), Pennzoil dino, and Amsoil ASL (all 5w-30).
I think a car that generally doesn't consume oil won't regardless of oil (within reason), but one that normally does consume a 'normal' amount, may be helped by different oils.

Well, of the two I've used:
Mobil 1 5w-30.. 1 quart every 400 miles.
Castrol GTX 5/10w-30.. 1quart every 800-1000 miles.
Mobil 1 5w-30.. 1 quart every 400 miles.
Castrol GTX 5/10w-30.. 1quart every 800-1000 miles.
Absolutely NO consumption using M1 5W-30, M1 0W-40, BMW 5W-30 synthetic, or GC 0W-30 in various Fords, Hondas, BMWs, and SAABs.
Oil change intervals typically ranging from 5,000 miles to 10,000 miles, but one BMW has seen an OCI as long as 17,000 miles!

I have several cars that leak or burn oil. All very high mileage. A 1986 SAAB with 300k+ miles, a 1994 Mercury with 194k miles and a 1996 Chevy with 127k miles. I have tried many different brands of motor oil, including Mobil 1, Valvoline Synthetic, Valvoline All-Climate, Exxon SuperFlo SL, Havoline SL, Mobil SJ and Mobil SL. Out of all, Mobil 1 and Valvoline Synthetic have by far the highest rate of consumption. I finally had to stop using Mobil 1 in my SAAB because both crank seals leaked like crazy. I have found that the lowest consumption by far is with dino Mobil Drive Clean, either SJ or SL. These results are extremely consistent across the 3 cars. With Mobil Drive Clean I have to add only from 1/2 to 1 qt between changes. 3-4 times as much with a synthetic, twice as much with other dino oils.
Just my own personal experience.
Based on this posting I am in the process of trying the Drive Clean in my 250,000 mile toyota.

Amsoil S2K 0W-30: less than 1L / 10,000KM in a 01 Honda Prelude, 2.2L VTEC engine.
Worst M1 0W40 TS and Motul Synergie 6100 5W40. Best BP Visco 5000 5W40, Redline 5W30 and Delvac 1.
98 Grand Prix-- 41 ounces of 10W-30 Mobil 1 in 5,000 miles.
98 Chevy truck 5.7L-- 24 ounces of 10W-30 Mobil 1 in 3,000 miles. Currently using 5W-30 Chevron Supreme and level has only slightly gone down in 1,800 miles. Better than Mobil 1 so far.

Not trying to tell you what to do, but...
I've had the "pleasure" of dealing with all sorts of GM engines...
2.8L V6
3.0L I4
4.3L V6
5.0L V8
5.7L/383 V8
7.4L V8
Some of these were marine engines, though most have been pickup engines...a 40 weight oil does wonders for consumption!
Not really a big fan of 10w-40, but when one of these engines starts consuming oil, I'll take a 5w-40 or 15w-40 "diesel oil" in 'em anyday of the week!
100,000 miles on my '97 Grand Prix 3800 V6, and I've never had to add a drop between changes. I tend to change when the oil life indicator says 0% or close to it. Generally that's around 6500-7000 miles or thereabouts. I was using M1 10w30 or Amsoil s2k until recently when I discovered Schaeffers.
2001 F150 with the 4.2L V6. 75,000 miles. Consumes no noticable amount of oil.
What is funny is that I feel naked if I don't keep a qrt or two in the truck, yet I've never used them. Every time I change brands of oil, I buy an extra "top-up" qrt. So I have a bunch of misc. oils in the basement!

I have '96 Audi A4 2.8 (12 valve motor) Quattro with 130k miles on it. For almost 100 k miles I used Castrol Syntec 5W-50. the OCI was 7.5 k miles until the warranty expired at 50k miles. Since then I've been doing 10k miles intervals. With 5W-50, I added maybe 1/4 quart between oil changes to keep it topped off. I'm now using M1 0W-40, and it looks like I have to add about 1/2-2/3 of a quart to keep it topped off between oil changes.
PS: There was also a period during which a had a nasty valley pan leak, but let's not go there...

My 96 Cherokee uses no oil at all. That's currently with Chevron Supreme 10W30, but also previously with Castrol GTX 10W30.
GF's Mercury Mountaineer 5.0L - 0 consumption in 4,000 miles with any oil
My F-150 4.6 - Castrol GTX 1 quart / 3,000 miles
Amsoil ASL 1 quart / 4,500 miles
Keep in mind that this truck has a small leak in a line going to the remote filter. I haven't fixed because it looks like a PITA to replace the lines.
