Oil Change 'trick' or urban legend for less mess?

poking a hole in the top for the inverted filters will serve to "release" the air so as to allow it to drain faster, but it's not needed.
 
Labman, I use the same brands you do as well as Champ Labs - same results here.

If you don't want to grow old waiting for the thing to drain in the hopes someday it will all soak thru the element - here's a trick: Simply push a nail up thru the ADBV to hold it open and invert the filter. That should allow most to drain in most cases.
