Interesting observation today. I was looking at Purolator air filters and noticed the pleat count was substantially lower than the OEM air filter pleat count. My Chrysler OEM filter has 80 pleats and the Purolator aftermarket filter has about 60 pleats.

Rich, on my Toyota and Nissan the OEM filter are much better than after market, IMO. I would suggest that the auto makers understand how important air filter really are to the life of the engine.

I changed the filter on my mom's Beretta w/ a 3.1L engine, and the Purolator replacement looked a bit weak on the pleats compared to what was in there (Fram, I'm guessing, I forgot what I put in years ago).
Also, the Napa Gold replacement for my SHO has more pleats than the Purolator it replaced.
