Well, as most of you know, I got my first bike recently and have 1045 on the clock as of today. I took it in a couple of weeks ago to have the first 600 mile service performed, as per the manual. I could tell that they "worked" on it as previously unlubed parts had lube and the chain was freshly sprayed. The oil and filter were changed during this service.
When I first picked the bike up a month ago, we had an issue with 1-2. About 5 miles from the dealer, the bike refused to go into 2nd gear. Even at a dead stop with the clutch in, it wouldn't go. With the clutch in and the bike in gear, it would pull. It went back and their head mechanic adjusted something in the gear housing case at the motor. The issue was taken care of until now. Prior to this maint service, the 1 - 2 shift was fine. A touch clunky, but I attributed that to novice shifting and the learning curve. Now however, and don't blast me here, the 1-2 shift at high rpm (8k+)is impossible. Say, for instance, that you are accelerating rapidly from a stop light. When I attempt to up-shift, the shifter kicks to neutral and I am unable to up or down shift. The shifter is "dead" and I have to slow to under 30 mph or so and pretty much force it into 1st. Any attempt to raise or lower the shifter is met with a rattle as if the dogs (or syncros in a car) are not engaging. This happens even if I clutch out and clutch in again. Normal rpm upshifts seem fine but I can get it to malfunction in the 5-6k range. Safety issue in my book as even though I'm getting to the speed limit quickly, I have to drop way back to up shift. Once again, this is primarily during high rpm upshifts and only in the 1-2 range.
I've spoken with the dealer and his top mechanic test drove it today but only noticed a slight rattle during the 1-2 shift. Obviously I can't take the mech out for a test drive. They will be calling Yamaha and getting their input. Seems odd about the other post concerning the Suzuki I just read.
Any ideas from the bike experts here?
