Does anyone have any idea on the OCI on the UPS trucks diesel and gas, or any other delivery vehichles. The UPS vehicles are run all day so the oil stays warm, but it used in alot of stop, shutdown and go. It would be interesting to no what oil they use and what intervals, seem this service would be fairly severe but probable not as bad as the start once short trip vehicle.

UPS uses the 15w40 Shell product here. I've seen the drums in the depot when visiting a friend who worked there as a sorter last season.
They make sure the engines are topped off weekly which helps in fleet service. Most fleets are lucky to get their oil changed.
I think their service is harder on the starters, batteries, transmission/clutches and brakes. Engine wise prob easier than some other fleet use.

UPS has this insane paranoia of microexamining every facet of their business. So they must have figured out it still saves fuel to shut off at every stop vs the starter wear. They say the gas ones run on common Ford 300s or GM 4.3s (thread about this a couple years ago) so with average city accelleration on a truck that heavy, the oil keeps hot.
I'd be more suspect of that Lowes cash & carry truck. The one parked at mine has a license plate from insanely far away, and since there's only one truck I wonder what middle manager "owns" it in addition to his/her other responsibilities.

A little off topic but;
My friend got written up because he put the brake on (either before or after) the engine was turned off. They want it done one way EVERY TIME or else. He did it different. Had his foot on the brake at the time but still... Someone was watching and wrote him up...
They have their way to do everything like you say and if you don't, you WILL next time or else!

i am a delivery driver for Lowe's and can provide some info on this topic. The mileage on all trucks is logged daily and the trucks go for service at at an interval set by the fleet department at the corporate office. I'm not exactly sure what the interval is now but I know it used to be 7500 miles. The drivers are responsible for checking and topping off the oil as needed.

They send out samples for UOA for the tractors in my company's tanker truck fleet and change only based on that. Last I knew, some of those trucks go 50Kmi between OCIs. They used to be Volvo tractors, Cummins I6s, 10spd trans. Many of them are semi-auto now.

I drive semi truck for a local company, and we lease them through Penske.... and they change the oil (and do a PM) every 3 months or 30,000 miles whichever come first. I believe they use bulk 15w40 whatever.... But also, every-time oil is changed its another 44 quarts
