OCI length with PP

Hey all,

I recently switched my moms car (2011 Sonata GLS 2.4 GDI) to PP from Dino. She used to do 3k OCIs, but I plan on running the oil 5k from now on. She manual allows for 7500 OCIs under normal conditions,I doubt PP will have any issues handling 5k intervals.

My only concern is that she doesn't drive very often and at 5K OCIs the oil will only be changed annually. Will keeping the oil unchanged for a year have any negative effects?

I found a few posts regarding the same question I'm asking but this car having a GDI motor will it make a difference?

I have kept syns in cars for up to 2.5 years, ZERO issues. I would not change PP at 5K. It easily does 7500.

If she bought it new, I'd follow whatever the manual says. You'll want to keep that wonderful warranty intact. Do they not have a spec for time as well? many often state: 6 months/7500 miles, or OLM -- whichever occurs first.

First you have a post about a fuel dilution problem on a 2013 Sonata and know asking about a 2011 Sonata?

I think 7500 is reasonable if she is getting it on the highway periodically. If her driving is 100% city, then I think 5000 is safer.

Best way to tell is to try 5000 and have it analyzed. If fuel dilution is still low, and the oil isn't too acidic, then run it out to 7500 (or further).

@ 100k miles, the 1st OCI with PP 5w-30 was 5600 miles when the level dropped from F to 0 on the dipstick, the 2nd OCI took 7000 to get to 0 at which point it got changed.

My 2013 is a turbo model and my driving style is completely different as well. The guidelines the 2.0T are 3k OCI severe conditions, 5k OCI for normal conditions. Since I sit in a lot of stop and go traffic I think it would safer for me to change out every 3.5k.

But my moms car (2011) is the non turbo 2.4, it has 20k on the odometer. The manual allows for 3.75k OCI under severe conditions and 7.5k under normal driving. I think 5K OCIs will be safe.

Good to hear about interval between changes with syn. My "work" car doesn't see a lot of miles and most of the miles I put on it are highway. I'll change it after a year if I don't hit the mileage. Last OC was a couple weeks ago, PP 5W-30 and a PureOne filter.
