A Nissan Versa weighs almost 3000 lbs and can do 100mph. You know how many people you could kill with that thing? At a certain point with parenting you’ve got to trust the effort you put in to generate a responsible adult. This isn’t a twitchy short wheelbase super car or a liter bike. If at 16 you can’t be trusted to handle a front wheel drive midsized sedan with nothing special (in 2020) performance you shouldn’t have a license.
