I walked by the EV charging area at a hospital today, and a gorgeous Taycan Turbo S, parked between two Model Y cars, caught my eye. But my attention was really drawn to the size of the front brake calipers. I don't know if I have ever seen brake calipers on a car, as big as these. For reference, those are 21" wheels.

What about you?

That’s a $20k brake job when due lol.

Don’t know why people opt for the carbon brakes so much? My old mustang had Griggs/Sierra 13.5” rotors & smallish 4 pot calipers. That thing had more brake available, repetitively, than one even needed for track days.

I will say it’s not a bad looking setup though.

He spends more money on his brakes than I do on my car.

5000 pounds of insane get-up-and-go and then stopping, repeatedly. Those brakes are worth more than almost everything I have combined.

Simple, the USA has crawling speed limits. All this about how fast it is and 10 second this that and the other is just a huge load of crap, it doesn't need anything more than H rated to drive anywhere in the USA. German recommended tires, not that 99% of the people will ever reach the speed rating of a Y tire, it is the law. The tires must be capable of meeting the cars Vmax spec in the title.

Holy detached retina Batman.

Those brake calipers do look massive, especially with those 21" wheels. It's crazy how these high-performance cars have such impressive details.

I find it incomprehensible that Porsche puts H rated garbage tires on these cars.

The Porsche Car Configurator gives the buyer of a Taycan Turbo S, the option of either All Season or Summer tires. You are going to be hard pressed to find all season tires with higher than an H speed rating. Hankook offers the Ion Evo, that is an All Season Y rated tire. But looking at the tread, there is no way I would trust it in snow/ice conditions.

All the Summer tires I can find, that fit the Taycan Turbo S, are Y rated.

Having owned a Mercedes SL550, it is not incomprehensible at all, for me at least, that someone may choose a set of performance A/S, over a set of Summer tires, and having to garage the car when the weather turns cold. I personally chose to go with two sets of wheels, a set of Bridgestone S-04 Pole Position summer tires, and a set of Dunlop WinterSport winter rated tires on a second set of wheels.

But I totally understand why some may not want to go that way, and want A/S tires. My SL550 was factory speed restricted to 165 mph, but I never drove it over 135. I probably could have driven on a set of H rated tires and been fine.

Rumor say the rotors will last the life of the car. Pads 30k-70k miles maybe longer if you are heavy user of brake regen

These are not performance tires, they are Grand Touring tires. Maybe I should have put it another way. They are H rated and garbage tires. I have driven them. They are abysmal in the rain.
