Now that the 2016 Civic will have a turbo option

This will only be the second turbo Honda ever sold in the US (the first being the RDX), and now the Civic is a mainstream economy car as opposed to a niche luxury car like the RDX.

Yes, and the turbo is OPTIONAL. Doubt most Civics would have it.

New water-cooled turbos with properly designed lubrication, and good oils, don't have the problems the old ones did.

Makes me wonder how Toyota will revamp the Camry! They will at least MEET Civic levels or get chewed up by the completion, the design is getting long-in-the-tooth.

It's going to be a big change, especially for loyal Honda customers, even though turbos are very reliable, you still need to be very good about regular maintenance especially oil changes.

If I buy a new standard Civic I will stay with the 2L normally aspirated engine, not 1.5L turbo engine. More parts more chance to break down, and I hate turbo lag.

The type R is a little difference, the 2L with turbo makes about 300 HP is tempting.

I suspect Toyota will replace the V6 with a turbo as well.

Turbos put you in a different mindset
Even though I sold my F350 6.7L and went to a new one- 6.2L gasser I still let the oil circulate before I shut it down.
I also delay firing it up- really- LOL

I have no idea, I never paid attention to HTO-06 because I have no need for it.

If I stay with Honda recommendation for my S2000 any 10W30 will do, for E430 M1 or Castrol 0W40 are the ones. Other cars need dino 5W30.

If you look at hi-def photos of the new turbo engines, they require 0w-20 per the oil cap. I didnt think any company would spec a 20 for a turbo/direct injected engine.

The new Malibu looks great in pictures. My son has a new 2015 Chrysler 200S V6 and it's very impressive, although I think it competes more with the Accord. Turbos are becoming more common and should be reliable long term if you really need the power. This chrome beak that Honda is jamming down peoples throats is just not a good look.

A turbo will be standard on everything except LX models. I would bet about half of the civics sold will have them. They sell a lot of EX trim. for as much upgrading as Honda did, I'm pretty impressed with the pricing. It hardly changed at all. Hopefully it won't have the teething pains the 2015 Fit has had. My wife is taking hers in for 2 more recalls again. I think that's 5 since she bought it, and some others were already repaired before they were allowed to sell the car.

The MSRP of 2016 Civic EX is almost the same as Accord LX, Accord is currently has good discount while 2016 Civic is new so it has much smaller discount. If the two are the same price which one do you choose ?

Why are people comparing a Civic to a Camry, Malibu, and 200? Those are all the next size vehicles up.

It should be compared to the Corolla, Cruze, and Dart from those respective makes.

I was thinking the same thing. I also find it odd that, according to the link above, the only manual shift vehicle will be the base 2.0?

Yeah not as many people want(or even know how) to drive a manual anymore. Sadly. Plus, they get worse fuel economy so from a manufacurer's stand point it makes even less sense. Another part to engineer, worse mileage(CAFE hit).
