My Nissan came equipped with some fairly decent alloy wheels, and Bridgestone Dueler H/T, that were pretty rubbish at most things a 4WD tyre is supposed to do...255/70 R16 standard...the spare is on a steely, which is pretty reasonable, as it doesn't get belted around like alloy with stones and whatnot, it's hoisted up between the diff and the bumper.
Just replaced the 4 mains with 265/70R16, as I'm allowed to go up 15mm on width and diameter, and 265s are a bit more common...and look better.
Spare is still steely, Bridgestone, 9 years old, and has seen 425km give or take 10km...and probably past it's useby date. Also 3/8" smaller radius than the newbies, not best for the LSD.
Leaving me with options...
Get an alloy wheel from a wrecker, another Maxxis, and 5 tyre rotation...$350.

- all the same
- Sun exposure reduced per tyre by 20%
- A flat, mid life messes the whole equation around (like a sidewall stake did on my last set of tyres)
Get a 245/75 16, cheapy A/T tyre, and make a DIY "spacesaver" on the steely spare wheel, lugging 3-4 lb less around for the next 9 years, on the 0.5% chance that I'm going to need it.
