Not familiar with car sales tactics from this era, enlighten me please.

Carvana is off limits. Emailed my CU, they need a buyers order to work with them. Called Carvana and inqured about a buyers order. Some woman tells me "to get the buyers order you must first purchase the vehicle and they buyers order will then be given to you which you can give to your bank". My bank denies this and both agree it makes no sense. I guess my only option is to try and go to a local dealership and finance through my bank. Back to square 1.

Carmax is sending a 2019 Malibu LT to my local store for test drive. I'll probably end up purchasing it and trading in my old Honda for cheap I'm assuming. 141 approx per month and 9.49% not using my bank. Loan amount would likely be around 6.5-7k.

Have you checked the loan APR against credit unions?

My credit union is making out extremely difficult to work with anyone outside of their network. Meaning I would most likely need to go to a dealership.

Cool, I think you will like the buying experience if you decide to buy. They are not always the cheapest but ease of the transaction will make up for it to some degree. They will probably offer you a CarMax extended warranty but it will be no pressure and asked only once if you are interested. Their in-house extended warranty is probably one of the best out there that is non OEM. They will routinely send your vehicle to a dealership service visit if they cannot figure out any warranty problem directly with no extra cost to you.

They just called to go over terms of the loan, only asked me to agree to terms once even after I said no, and were overall very friendly and patient. This takes a huge load off my shoulders.

How many have you bought in the Salt Lake Valley
( Utah) ? It's a very difficult place to buy a vehicle!
First new car/truck I bought was from the Chevy dealer in Layton, Utah just outside of Ogden. Called them up from Victorville, CA and offered $75 over invoice for a new C2500 Camper Special. Would pay cash upon their receipt of the truck. They said yes.

About 6 weeks later they called and the ordered truck was in. Drove to Layton, picked it up and paid the agreed on price.

Not this millinium, but....

Yes-the market has changed " post "C"

Find another credit union. It should be very easy to get a loan- assuming you are over 750 FICO. That percentage rate is high if you are over 750. If you are not- disregard my post.

I'm done looking for a newer vehicle. My insurance quoted me $257 for a monthly payment on the Malibu. Freaking ridiculous. I can afford it and then some but I'm not paying that much for auto coverage.

So who are you leaving your money to when you pass on, while you are driving around in a beater? My question is serious....

I've got 10k cash I was going to use as a down payment. I'll just use it to buy from a private party.

Is a 6 year old Malibu much more than $10k?

Do you have a terrible claims history or terrible credit? $257 is really high for a pretty cheap car with low limits.

Have shopped around for insurance? How much more is that vs. what you are paying now?

Seems you are not problem solving and letting every little roadblock stop you cold.
I ran a multi quote and every visible quote was around $250-$280. My insurance was one of the lower cost insurances.

I just don't want to end up like my mother who now has no money left over for deductibles and emergencies. My quote was with $0 comprehensive and $250 collision.

No my claims history is minimal, and my credit is considered prime.

Why not just bump those deductibles up and just set aside a rainy day savings to cover the deductibles if needed?

I am not intimate to your finances but you seems to allude on one hand you can afford things and then on the other just do not want to pay it but then state you do not want to be short of money like your mother?

You remind me of a co-worker that is flush with money but it takes a crow bar to open that wallet up to even buy a soda.
