NOS oil. How to tell the difference between GF5/GF6 oils?

My last thread enlightened me to the new GF-6 standard. Went outside and checked the two jugs of penzoil plat i have in the garage and both are GF-5 compliant.

I usually order my oil online, and sometimes you never know how old it is. Is there a way to tell, for the Penzoil for example, if it is the older GF5 or newer GF6 oil without seeing the back of the actual bottle?

my new (to me) direct injected truck would prefer GF6 oil i believe. Maybe i just need to buy at the local parts store for the first few oil changes and confirm with my own eyeballs?

Nothing wrong with PENNZOIL GF5. That was formulated for GDI motors. Run it with no worries and get the GF6 next time.

sometimes the older bottles had the newer reformulated stuff in them

Also the oils were reformulated for GDI years ago.
they just made it official with GF-6 and API SP.

Is your truck GDI or TGDI? I dont see a truck in your sig.

For about the 800th time. Yes, if you want GF-6 marked oil then the only way to ensure that is to physically check the containers.
